Thomas David Smith, 76, Pikeville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Thomas was born in Sampson County Dec. 1, 1938, to the late Chester Charlie Smith and Sally Allen Smith.

He was a retired truck driver.

Thomas had a wonderful sense of humor, and never took himself too seriously. He was a good friend and a great father, and had a generous heart.

He provided a wonderful home for his family, and gave all he could to his family and strangers alike.

Thomas was a member of First Baptist Church in Pikeville and Pikeville Lions Club.

A service celebrating Thomas' life will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Millard and the Rev. Glenn McCullen officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marie Gainey Smith; daughters, Bonnie Ham and husband, Linwood, of Goldsboro, Wanda Fortner and husband, Ronnie, of Selma, Patricia Hix and husband, Walt, of Goldsboro and Pamela Pennell and husband, Cecil, of Smithfield; sisters, Judy Rose McBeth of Ohio, Sandy McCullen and husband, Glenn, of Benson and Cindy Stevens and husband, Ed, of Grantham; brothers, Glenn Allen Smith and wife, Peggy, of Fayetteville, Tim Smith and wife, Linda, of Fremont and Charlie Smith and wife, Beverly, of Kenly; grandchildren, Dawn Stoner and husband, Shawn, David Fortner and wife, April, Jennifer Smith and husband, Ryan, Jeremy Pennell, Nancy Worley and husband, John, and Nicole Petitt and husband, Chris; and two great-grandsons, Cole Stoner and Bentley Glisson.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Smith.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given to First Baptist Church, 207 Big Daddy's Road, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at their home.
