HAZEL D. VAN ROEKEL

Hazel Davis Van Roekel, 92, Goldsboro, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Smithfield Manor Nursing Home.

She was born in Wayne County, N.C., Dec. 19, 1922, and was the daughter of the late Williard L. Davis Sr. and Mary Vann Davis.

Mrs. Van Roekel retired from NCBA Senior Employment Services after 20 years of service.

She was active in the Rebekahs, a fraternal order and service organization. She served as president of the Rebekah Assembly of North Carolina from 2003 to 2004, served three terms as Noble Grand at the Home Lodge No. 106-Goldsboro and served as deputy president of District 2.

She was a member of Love Memorial Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Richard P. Van Roekel Sr. and wife, Jean, of Lake Lure, N.C., James L Van Roekel and wife, Jean, of Alexandria, Va., and Teresa Godwin and husband, Calvin, of Smithfield, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Margaret Van Roekel of Portsmouth, Va.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Roland Davis Sr. and sister-in-law, Jean, of Kenly; a brother-in-law, William Moore of Raleigh; and brother-in-law, Johnny Van Roekel Sr. and wife, Mavis, of Goldsboro.

Mrs. Van Roekel was preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Van Roekel Sr.; a son, Henry J. "Butch" Van Roekel Jr.; two brothers, Willard L. Davis Jr. and Grover T. Davis Sr.; and a sister, Nan Moore.

A service celebrating her life will be held Friday, July 31, 2015, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., with the Rev. Richard Toler officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Interment will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Rebekah Lodge 106.
