Having been born and raised in Greensboro, Larry graduated from Ben L. Smith High School in Greensboro, and then, in 1980, he graduated from Elon College. He and his parents relocated to Mount Olive several years back so that they could be near his sister.

He had been employed as campus mail courier at Mount Olive College just prior to his becoming disabled due to illness. He was a member of Mount Olive Presbyterian Church.

Larry is survived by his parents, Ben M. and Edna Webb Colson, of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Lynn C. and Clark Dail of Mount Olive; a niece, Tracy D. Teal and husband, Jeff, of Creedmore, and a nephew, Jason Dail and wife, Amber, of Chinquapin, along with their children.

A special note of thanks from the family is extended to the physicians and staff of Southeastern Cancer Center for their expertise in treating and caring for Larry in a positive and personal way. They also thank the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their support and care in providing end of life comfort for him.
