Aug. 6 1934-July 1, 2015

John Joseph "Joe" Parks, 80, LaGrange, passed away suddenly Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at his home.

Joe was born in Wayne County Aug. 6, 1934, to the late Giles and Johnnie Newsome Parks.

He owned and operated the family business, Parks Septic Tank Service.

Joe was a member of Woodmen of the World and Bethel United Methodist Church.

Joe was an unusually fine man. He was adored by his family, for whom he was a source of strength, but also by countless others, from old friends to new acquaintances, all of whom were struck by his quiet generosity, his kind and unassuming intelligence and his innate courteousness.

He cherished his wife, and was a role model to his children and grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Joe's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2015, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with Rev. Glenn Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Joe is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pauline Waters Parks; sons, Carlton Parks and Patricia of LaGrange and Chris Parks and wife, Rene, of LaGrange; daughter, Gail Fields; sister, Barbara Jones of LaGrange; and brothers, David Parks and Linwood Parks both of LaGrange.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, April Pennington, Jennifer Shafer and husband, Michael, Dale Parks, Alex Parks and Matthew Parks, and great-grandchildren, Dalton Pearce, Haley Pennington, Michael Shafer, Ethan Shafer and Christian Pennington.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 4, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a grandson, Danny Glenn Pearce Jr., and sister, Mildred Stallings.
