Mrs. Shirley Armwood Williams-Whitfield, 79, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Big Red," 407 W. Chestnut St., Goldsboro, N.C., departed her earthly life Sunday, May 10, 2015, at her residence.

Shirley was born in Duplin County Oct. 29, 1935, to the late Mr. James Armwood and Mrs. Lillian Waters-Armwood.

She received her education in the Duplin County public school system.

During Mrs. Whitfield's working years, she worked in the community as a caretaker.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 11 a.m. in Apostle D.L. McIntyre Memorial Chapel at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C. Pastor Thelma Davis will officiate

Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, 311 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Expressway, Goldsboro, N.C.

Also, a public viewing will be held Friday, May 15, 2015, in Apostle D.L. McIntyre Memorial Chapel at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., from 2 to 6 p.m.

Mother Whitfield's loving and precious memories will be cherished by her children, Lillian Pittman and husband, Curtis, of Goldsboro, N.C., Ervin Williams of Mount Olive, N.C., Cathy Baker of Savannah, Ga., Sybil Fisher and husband, Tony, of Charlotte, N.C., Shirley Speight and husband, Dennis, of Columbus, Ga., and David Williams of Snow Hill, N.C.; 22 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Saturday, May 16, 2015, the family members and friends will assemble one hour prior at 9:50 a.m. at Mother Whitfield's residence, 407 W. Chestnut St., Goldsboro, N.C., in preparation for the funeral procession.

Flowers may be sent to McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., beginning Friday, May 15, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
