Douglas McArthur Hill, Mount Olive resident, passed away early Sunday morning, May 3, 2015, while being cared for at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. There waiting on the other side to receive him was his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, a host of angels and other loved ones who had gone on before.

Doug, a veteran of the United States Army, was a member of American Legion Post 103 in Mount Olive, where he had served as commander.

He served his God, community and fellow church members at Snow Hill Free Will Baptist Church as a deacon.

For a long tenure of service, he and partner, Leslie Hobbs, operated H and H Amoco Service Station in Mount Olive.

Surviving Doug are his wife of 47 years, Joyce Houston Hill of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Gina Hill of Goldsboro and Stephen and Dena Hill of Pikeville; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda H. and Travis Hudson of Newton Grove and Ashley H. and Hector Cora Jr. of Goldsboro; nine grandchildren, Christopher Hill, Alexandra Scott, Brendan Hudson, Ryan Hudson, Isaac Cora, Isaiah Cora, Jackson Hill, Sara Cora and Emma Grace Hill; three brothers, Tommie Hill and wife, Dot, of Wilmington, Bill Hill and special friend, Darlene, of Spring Lake and Joseph Hill of Pikeville; four sisters, Letha H. Outlaw of Seven Springs, Frances H. Herring of Kinston, Adeline H. Taylor of Stantonsburg and Violet H. Saviak and husband, Mike, of Mount Olive; his wife's siblings, Jo Ann Anders and husband, Steve, of Goldsboro, Terry Houston of Charlotte, Deloris Sasser and husband, Larry, of Princeton and Jerry Houston and wife, Connie, of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; and a "good number" of nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Estelle Williams Hill; brothers, David, Edward, Roger, Grover and Clayton Hill; sisters, Bonnie H. Herring and Marlene H. Boutwell; an infant sister; and his special mother-in-law, Sarah Letchworth.

Services to remember Doug and his life will be held at Snow Hill Free Will Baptist Church, Mount Olive, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, with the Rev. Mark Hobbs officiating, followed by burial in the cemetery at the church.

Visitation will be at Tyndall Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 5. At other times, the family will be at the residence.

The Hill family wishes to express deep gratitude to the third floor staff of Wayne Hospital and the staffs of 3-HC and Kitty Askins Hospice Center for exemplary care and support during Doug's illness and final moments.
