MARGARET O. MARTIN

Aug. 27, 1923-April 2, 2015

Margaret Virginia Oates Martin, 91, known to most as Pete, passed away Thursday morning, April 2, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

Born in Sampson County, she was one of 11 children born to her late parents, Edwin and Laura Mitchell Oates.

Siblings, Mitchell Oates, Katheline O. Hopkins, Joe Oates, John Oates, Laura O. Smith, Helen Melinda Oates, Mary O. Riggle, Robert "Bob" Oates, Joyce O. Odom and Sam Oates, all preceded her in death, as did her husband, Eugene Carr Martin Sr., and daughter, Sarah Elizabeth "Sue" Lewis.

A longtime resident of Faison, she was a member of Faison Presbyterian Church, and had been employed as a clerk at Faison Pharmacy.

Mrs. Martin is survived by three sons and their wives, Ralph and Frances Coley of Pine Level, Eugene C. Martin Jr. and Beverly Martin of Mount Olive and Hugh B. and Donna Martin of Faison; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive Friday night, April 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. At other times, the family will be at the home of Hugh and Donna Martin, 119 Fletcher St., Faison.

Services will be held from the graveside in Faison Cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4. The Rev. Paul Rose will be the officiating minister.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
