LARRY GREEN JORGENSEN

Sept. 18, 1936-April 3, 2015

Larry Green Jorgensen, beloved son, brother, husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home Friday, April 3, 2015.

Larry was born in Eugene, Ore., Sept. 18, 1936, to wonderful parents, Nephi Moroni Jorgensen and Martha Jane Green Jorgensen.

Larry met his future wife, Ella Gray Sullivan, in class at East Carolina College. Larry observed that he knew the minute he saw her that she was the girl he wanted to marry. They were married in Goldsboro July 23, 1961.

Three weeks later, they were sealed for all time and eternity in the Idaho Falls, Idaho, temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Aug. 11, 1961.

In 1960, Larry received a Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina College. Four years later, he graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry as a doctor of dental surgery (DDS).

He then served as a captain in the United States Air Force.

Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to North Carolina, where he raised his family, practiced dentistry and served in the community, initially in Greenville and, from 1970 to the present, in Jacksonville.

Larry was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young man, he served a 21/2-year full-time mission in northern Mexico.

He subsequently served in many other capacities, including multiple times as a bishop presiding over the local congregation in Jacksonville, as a counselor in the presidency of the Wilmington Stake, as a counselor in the North Carolina Raleigh Mission and for 10 years immediately preceding his passing, as the patriarch of the Wilmington Stake.

He lived his testimony in word and deed. Larry's selfless service and his faithful example touched the hearts of those he served.

Larry's greatest successes were in the home. He was independent, but always acted in tandem with the love of his life and wife of 53 years, Ella Gray Sullivan Jorgensen. He loved being a husband, a father and a grandfather. He found his greatest fulfillment when with his family.

Larry is survived by his wife, Ella Gray Sullivan Jorgensen, and his 99- year-old mother, Martha Jane Green Jorgensen of Salt Lake City, Utah.

He is also survived by his children, Larry Green Jorgensen, Jr. (Tatyana Claire) of Charlottesville, Va., James Niels Jorgensen (Catherine) of Raleigh, N.C., Jill Jorgensen Lake (John) of Apex, N.C., and Michael John Jorgensen (Diana Gaskins) of Jacksonville, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; and siblings, Lynn Christian Jorgensen of Navarre, Fla., Layne Winslow (Michelle) of Edinburg, Texas, Janis Jorgensen Gerhart (Phil) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mark Green Jorgensen (Karen) of Bedford, Texas, Karen Jorgensen Fox (David) of Lehi, Utah, and Eva Jorgensen Kendrick of Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was preceded in death by his father, Nephi Moroni Jorgensen, and sister-in-law, Nancy Jorgensen of Navarre, Fla.

Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at the LDS chapel at 300 Brynn Marr Road in Jacksonville.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, April 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, 303 Chaney Ave., Jacksonville, and again Wednesday immediately prior to services at the LDS chapel from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Interment will be at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Montford Point Road in Jacksonville.
