Barbara Spivey Hardy, 82, Pikeville, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Barbara was born in Nash County Feb. 15, 1933, to the late John Wesley and Mary Lee King Spivey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Hardy.

Barbara was a longtime member of Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and the ladies auxiliary.

She had also been a member of Belfast Extension Homemakers Club.

Barbara lived a life of dedication to her family and friends and to her community. She had volunteered many hours with the American Red Cross and Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A service celebrating Barbara's life will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2015, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Don Sauls officiating. Interment will be Monday, March 9, 2015, at 10 a.m. in Pikeville Cemetery.

The family will greet friends Sunday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Phil and Margaret Hardy, 502 Plantation Road, Goldsboro.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Tammy DeVarona and husband, Jose, of Pikeville; sons, Steven Allen Hardy and special love, Barbara Carrell, of Pikeville, Bobby Jay Hardy and wife, Liz, of Saulston and Phil Hardy and wife, Margaret, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Miguel DeVarona and wife, Nikki, Natalia Lancaster and husband, Jamie, Dominique Grady and husband, Kelly, Liza Henderson and husband, Jeff, Lacie Jae Hardy, Mary-Beth Hardy, Allyson Flemer and husband, Jon, Phillip Hardy Jr. and fianceé, Karsan Williams, and Emily Hardy and special love, Justin Barbour; and eight great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister, Margaret S. Dorman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.
