JAMES 'JIM MCKAY' ASHWORTH

James "Jim McKay" Ashworth, 69, Goldsboro, passed away Thursday morning, March 5, 2015, at his home.

Born Oct. 8, 1945, he was the son of the late John Henry and Gertrude Whormby Ashworth.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ginny Parete and Jean Mundella, and a brother, Fred Ashworth.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 8, 2015, at 4 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Rose Hicks officiating.

"Jim McKay" Ashworth was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and a past member of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce. He was a Little League Baseball coach, and worked very closely with the Wayne County schools.

From 1976 until 1994, he was the host of the Jim McKay and Herman show on WGBR 1150 AM radio station.

In 1994, Jim collaborated with Jerry Parker to create "Wake Up Wayne" on Channel 10. He served as the show's host until his retirement in 2005.

He had filmed and interviewed various people all over Wayne County, including at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Goldsboro Police Department, Goldsboro Fire Department, Wayne County schools and many community leaders.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Sims Ashworth; sons, Donald McKay Ashworth and wife, Marla, of Goldsboro, Jonathan Craig Ashworth and wife, Lynne, of Goldsboro and James Bradley Ashworth and fianceƩ, Carrie Smith of Marietta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Rachel Ashworth, Daniel Ashworth, John Ashworth, Hannah Hudson and husband, Michael, Melody Vasquez and husband, Jose', Grant Ashworth, Ian Fruzzetti, Tyler Wendorf, Carlyn Yeatts and Victoria Yeatts; and four great-grandchildren, Cole Hudson, Lexa Hudson, Selena Vasquez and Nayeli Vasquez.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Casey Funeral Home chapel in Princeton and at other times, at the home.
