Dewey McGuill Pate, 91, 5827 U.S.117 South, Fremont, died Friday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center with his family by his side.

Funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 1100 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville.

Committal will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with masonic rite.

There will be a time of fellowship with the family from 1 to 3 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Fitzgerald Ballance Pate, of the home; daughter, Martie Pate McCall and her husband, Randy McCall, of Pikeville; sons, John D. Pate and his wife, Betty S. Pate, and Morris B. Pate and his wife, Charlene Pate, all of Pikeville; a sister, Joyce Pate Crumpler of Belfast; a sister-in-law, Neta Thorton Pate of Belfast; grandchildren, Leigh Ann Kasin and her husband, Stuart Kasin, Alan McCall and his wife, Bridget McCall, Leslie M. Oakes and her husband, Jonathan Oakes, Tyler McCall and his wife, Brittany McCall, and Emily Grace Pate; five great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and his stepchildren, Gerald Ballance and his wife, Deborah Ballance, and Andy Ballance and his wife, Jenny Ballance; step-grandchildren, Bryant Ballance, Ann Marie Ballance, Harry Ballance and Jessica Ballance, all of Fremont.

Mr. Pate was born in the Belfast community of Wayne County and was preceded in death by his parents, Eva Scott Pate and James Brantley Pate; his brother, Charles Pate; and his first wife, Grace Aycock Pate, who (together) spent most of their lives in the Pikeville community, where he loved, worked and cared for his farm land, especially his tobacco crops.

Mr. Pate was a member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church where he served in many capacities, such as chairman of the deacon board, chairman of the trustees and teacher of the men's Bible class.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Pate was past master of Harmony Lodge # 340 AF & AM and was a 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite and York Rite.

Lastly, he served as a member of the school board at Nahunta School.
