Wiley Davis Jr., 85, Pikeville, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Wiley was born in Wayne County on Dec. 2, 1929, to the late Wiley Denver Davis and Nannie Hare Davis.
He retired from his work at Best Distributing Co.
Wiley was a rare treasure to his family and friends. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Wiley shared many wonderful stories and teaching experiences with his family.
He was always the first person to respond to anyone in need.
As life-long member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, he was instrumental in a number of ministries at the church and served as the Sunday school superintendent.
A service celebrating the life of Wiley will be held on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at 7 p.m. at Free Chapel P.F.W.B. Church with the Rev. Dock Hobbs, the Rev. Roy Savage and Dr. Henry Smith officiating.
Interment will be on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at 11a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.
Wiley was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life; he lived to work.
He was the kind of man who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for them.
Wiley is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beulah Smith Davis; daughter, Deborah Grimes of Goldsboro; son, Gregg Davis and wife, Cindy, of Pikeville; grandson, Scott Head of Baton Rouge, La.; great-grandchildren, Jordan Head and Kennedi Head; niece, Lisa Royall and husband, Bill; and nephew, Stan Davis, and wife, Phyllis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Davis and granddaughter-in-law, Andrea Head.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Free Chapel P.F.W.B. Church, 187 Vance Dr., Goldsboro, NC 27534.
The family will receive friends Friday following the service in the fellowship hall of Free Chapel and other times at the family home.
