Alvis Wilson Denning, 80, resident of Raleigh and formerly of Faison, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at Rex Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, followed by visitation.

Burial will be Friday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Born in Stantonsburg in Wilson County, he was the oldest of six children born to Andrew Washington Denning and Hortense Thornton Denning.

After graduation from Grantham High School, Mr. Denning was drafted into the United States Army.

After his service tour, he attended N.C. State University earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

His working career included heavy construction as well as farming the land.

A longtime resident of the Faison area, he was a member of Faison United Methodist Church.

Several years ago, he and his wife relocated to Raleigh and there he attended Brooks Avenue Church of Christ.

Mr. Denning is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Hill Denning; four children, Rafael Roman and his wife, Cathy Caudill Roman, of Faison, Mary Ruth Roman Baldus and her husband, Mark Baludus, of San Diego, Calif., Joel Thomas Denning and his wife, Tonya Lynn Deaton Denning, of Raleigh and Charles Eric Denning of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Catherine Ann, Ashley Elizabeth, Rebecca Grace Denning and Erica Ann Francine Baldus; and his five siblings, Dartha "Dot" D. Ingram of Emerald Isle, Everette W. Denning of Cary, Mary D. Jordan of Goldsboro, David D. Denning of Tampa, Fla., and Margaret D. Woodlies of Roswell, Ga., along with each of their families.

Arrangements are by Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive.
