SEVEN SPRINGS -- Mrs. Lyda Shivar Smith, 93, a resident of the Indian Springs community, passed away early Monday morning, Jan. 26, 2015, while being cared for at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Services to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, and will be officiated by the Rev. Phyllis Vail and the Rev. Larry Smith. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Olive. Friends and family will be received at the residence of Gregory and Jennifer Smith at 142 Quail Drive, Dudley, in the village of Sleepy Creek, today from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Smith, a long-time member of Seven Springs United Methodist Church where she was a past Sunday school teacher and church greeter, was also a member of the Indian Springs Fire Department's ladies auxiliary.

Loved ones surviving her include her sons, Lyman Gregory Smith and his wife, Jennifer, of Dudley, and Dr. Dwight Stephen Smith and his wife, Dr. Deborah Smith, of Goldsboro; a sister, Carolyn S. Mozingo and her husband, Lloyd, of Goldsboro; five grandchildren, Lyman Smith II and his wife, Sherri, Joel Smith and his wife, Heather, Jonathan Smith and his wife, Crissy, Ashley S. Barnes and her husband, Rocki, and Meredith Adams and her husband, Brad; and nine great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyman B. Smith; her parents, Mack C. and Lottie Nunn Shivar; five brothers, Horace, Douglas, David, Ned and Melvin Shivar; and two sisters, Sybil S. Price and Ruth S. Holmes.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to Seven Springs United Methodist Church or Indian Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

Her family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the end-of-life care they gave Mrs. Lyda. They also are most grateful to Ann Warrick Best, whose kind care and support allowed Mrs. Smith to live independently for as long as she did.
