James Arthur Pearce, 95, Johnston County, passed away at his home Jan. 19, 2015.

James was born in Johnston County Feb. 22, 1919, to the late Luther and Emma Strickland Pearce.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Willie Arlon Pearce, and sisters, Lillian P. Johnson, Tessie P. Howell and Ila P. Howell.

The funeral service will be conducted in Casey Funeral Home chapel at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, with the Rev. Dwayne Batten and the Rev. Al Hocutt officiating. The burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Pearce owned and operated Pearce's Ideal Barber Shop in Princeton for more than 40 years.

He was a World War II veteran, who fought in the five major battles in Europe, and he landed on Utah Beach.

James was also a member of St. Patrick's Masonic Lodge No. 617 in Princeton, a Shriner and a York Rite member of Selma Eastern Star.

He was a former volunteer fireman and former town commissioner of Princeton.

He was also a member of Princeton Baptist Church for 60 years, during which he had much admiration for all of his pastors, especially Dr. Horace Ricks and the Rev. Don Price.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Talton Pearce; a son, Alan Pearce, and daughter-in-law, Susan Matthews Pearce, of Ayden, N.C.; a nephew; and several nieces.

The family would like to especially thank 3HC Hospice Care, special friend and caregiver, Jeanette Burgess, and special friend and neighbor, Joan Tyndall.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at Casey Funeral Home chapel.

The family suggests memorials be made to Princeton Baptist Church Building Fund.
