WILLIAM EARL HEAD

Died Jan. 10, 2015

William Earl Head, 88, passed away peacefully Jan. 10, 2015, at The Laurels of Summit Ridge.

He leaves his son, Jeffrey and his wife, Nora, of Edmond, Okla.; his son, Drue and his wife, Mary, of Asheville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; sister, Louise Sasser of Goldsboro, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Head; brothers, Walter, Paul, Arnold, Thomas, John Wesley and Marion; and sisters, Ruth, Lillian and Mildred.

Born and raised in Rosewood/Grantham, N.C., he was the son of Eugene Miller Head and Prudence Bryan Head.

He proudly served in the United States Army from December 1944 to August 1946.

After he married Jewel Grady in 1950, he moved to Kinston, where he worked for and retired from DuPont after 37 years of service.

Earl was a devoted husband, loving father, dedicated/founding member of Spilman Memorial Baptist Church, wonderful tenor, avid Tar Heel fan, playful grandfather and most importantly, was a great example to us all in the way to live a Christian life.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at Spilman Memorial Baptist Church Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, with Dr. Mike Cogdill officiating.

Family visitation will be from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
