MARVIN J. SWINSON

Mr. Marvin James Swinson, 70, Beautancus community near Mount Olive, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, in Pitt County.
Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mount Olive Ward, conducted by Bishop Doug Wiggins Jr., with members of the local ward and family members participating in the service.
Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church's cultural center.
Burial will be Friday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. at Walker-Swinson Family Cemetery, Beautancus community.
Marvin was the son of the late George W. and Nannie Ruffin Lambert Swinson.
He served a combined 28 years in the United States Air Force and North Carolina Army National Guard.
After his military career ended, he then was a heavy equipment mechanic with Georgia Pacific Corp. and T.A. Loving Co.
He was a member of the Mount Olive ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
It was in 2009 and 2010, that he and his wife served a military mission at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan Smith Swinson; a son, Lt. Col. Micheal Swinson and wife, Vicki, stationed with the United States Army at Fort Bragg, N.C.; three daughters, Michell Swinson, Nana Swinson Strickland and husband, Richard, and Amanda Swinson Powers and husband, Chris, all of Mount Olive; a brother, G.W. Swinson Jr. and wife, Linda, of Mount Olive; and nine grandchildren, Miranda, Virginia, Candace and Christopher Swinson, Hunter, Chelby and McKenzi Strickland and James and Adrian Powers.
A sister, Bobbie Swinson Deaver; and a 1-day-old infant brother preceded him in death, as did his parents.
