Robert Eugene "Gene" McGowan, 67, LaGrange, died unexpectedly at Wayne Memorial Hospital Friday, Jan. 2, 2015.
A celebration of Gene's life will be held at Winterville Christian Church Saturday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m.
Gene was born in Wayne County, N.C.
He graduated from Campbell University, and May 11, 2003, he married Mary Reel McGowan.
Gene was owner/operator of McGowan's Starter and Alternator in Goldsboro, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mosley Wallace "Doc" McGowan and Ella Dean "Deanie" Marshburn McGowan.
Gene is survived by his wife of 11 years, Mary Reel McGowan; son, Robert Wallace McGowan; daughter, Jennifer McGowan Cunningham and husband, John; stepdaughters, Shannon Braxton and husband, Chris, and Katy Curran and husband, Shawn; granddaughter, Kelsey Rose McGowan; grandsons, Campbell and Jack Cunningham; stepgranddaughter, Logan Braxton; and sister, Jane McGowan Whealton and husband, Lee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winterville Christian Church.
