ELIZABETH 'BETSY' SPRING CALDERBANK

Elizabeth "Betsy" Spring Calderbank, 88, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Born in Goldsboro, N.C., to the late Thomas L. Yelverton and Addie Jones, Betsy was predeceased by her first husband of 47 years, Charles E. Spring also of Goldsboro, and second husband, Col. John J.B. Calderbank of Newtown, Conn.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by son, Thomas Spring of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Sarah "Sally" Spring and her husband, Ted Lyons, of Winston-Salem; son, Charles Spring and his wife, Ann Spring, of Arlington, Va.; and grandchildren, Christopher Spring of Arlington, Thomas Spring of Newport News and Nathaniel Spring of Richmond.

Betsy graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1943, and earned her associate degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo.

She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, and during her second marriage, a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

A homemaker dedicated to her family and friends, she enjoyed playing bridge, traveling and most of all, entertaining. Her life was one that was full of beauty, gaiety and grace.

A funeral service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at 200 N. James St. Monday, Oct. 13, at 10 a.m. Following this, a private internment service will be held for the family at Wayne Memorial Park.

The date of a reception for family and friends to celebrate Betsy's life will be announced later.
