Tommy Stewart Bray, 58, Greenville, N.C., passed away unexpectedly at his home Friday, Aug. 29, 2014.
A visitation with family and friends will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home Friday, Sept. 5, beginning at 5 p.m. and ending with a blessing and prayers at 6:30 p.m.
A casual celebration of Stewart's life will follow at Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville. In honor of Stewart, and his love for East Carolina University, the family asks attendees to wear their favorite purple and gold attire.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Stewart was born June 13, 1956, in Greensboro, N.C., to the late Tommy W. Bray and Hilma "Betsy" Bray. The family moved to Goldsboro when Stewart was 5, where he graduated from Goldsboro High School, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Stewart received a business degree from East Carolina University in 1978.
He was a sales rep with Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. for 25 years, and was currently working for Lorillard Tobacco Co.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Joan Hughes Bray; his uncle and aunt, Jerry and Catherine Stewart of Wilmington, N.C.; his mother-in-law, Jo Anne Hughes of Raleigh; and his beloved dog, Izzie.
Stewart cherished his small family and large circle of friends. He was a loving husband, son and uncle. He considered his cousins and friends the siblings he never had.
He was a member of the East Carolina University Pirate Club, an avid East Carolina University fan and a lifelong Duke Blue Devils basketball fan.
Stewart made friends wherever he went, enjoyed golf, the beach and beach music and never tired of sharing his love for all sports and making people laugh.
