James Elbert Cowan Jr., 82, 134 Pike Drive, Pikeville, died Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fellowship Baptist Church, 332 Arrington Bridge Road, Goldsboro. Committal will follow with military honors in Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 U.S. 117 South, Dudley. Pastor John Shore officiating.
There will be a time of visiting and sharing with the family from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service in the fellowship hall.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Ethel Phillips Cowan; son, James Philip Cowan of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and sisters, Janice F. Wagner and Susie Craig both of Fresno, Calif.
Mr. Cowan was a native of Fresno, Calif., and son of the late Winnie Christine Williams Cowan and the late James Elbert Cowan Sr.
He was a very active member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where he had served as the first treasurer, a deacon and Sunday school teacher until his illness.
Mr. Cowan was a retired technical sergeant with the United State Air Force, where he was an aircraft maintenance instructor.
