GOLDIE C. FERRELL

Aug. 6,1934 – Aug. 1, 2014

Mrs. Goldie Coley Ferrell, 79, Mount Olive, passed away Friday evening, Aug. 1.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 4, at 3 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronnie Wise and Dr. Dennis Atwood, with personal reflections given by friend and colleague, Diane Price. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Olive. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, and at other times at the residence of Alex and Anna Ferrell, 105 Patrick St., Mount Olive.

Mrs. Ferrell, a native of Wilson County, was the daughter of the late P.B. and Lillie Harrell Coley. She was the widow of Eugene Thomas “Tommie” Ferrell Jr. She enjoyed a rewarding teaching career, which had its beginnings at Mount Olive High School, followed by Southern Wayne High School, from which she ultimately retired. She was a much-loved and respected teacher and colleague.

The center of Mrs Ferrell’s life was her family. Besides her sons and their wives, her grandsons were the sunshine in her day. She celebrated their first steps, as well as their many other achievements throughout the years. Each one — Thomas, Sam, Jake and Alex Jr — occupied a very special place in her heart. Her surviving family includes sons- and daughters-in-law Tom and Millie Ferrell, Alex and Anna Ferrell and the four grandsons, all of Mount Olive; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmie and Edith Coley of Wilson; another sister-in-law, Margaret Ferrell Bradshaw of Mount Olive; and special friends, Diane Price, Judy Caveness and Susan Overman.

In addition to her family, she leaves behind hundreds of former students who respected and loved their English teacher.

Her family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kevin Talton and the Family Medicine Center staff for their care and unending support shown to Mrs. Ferrell during her days of confining illness.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial gifts be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children, 403 E. Front St., New Bern, N.C., 28563, or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534, Friends of Steele Memorial Library, c/o Norma C. McDonald, 615 W. Main St., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
