Mr. Matthew Gordon Joyner, 57, Elizabeth City, passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Wilkerson Funeral chapel in Greenville, N.C. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Matt was born in Washington, N.C.
He lived in Lumberton and Seven Springs before settling in Elizabeth City.
He graduated from Lumberton Senior High School, and attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
Matt sold insurance for various companies in Elizabeth City before owning and operating Ace Locksmith, also in Elizabeth City.
He was a member of Family Worship Center in Elizabeth City.
Matt established a nursing home ministry at Kindred Transitional Care, and was active in various outreach ministries within the community.
He is survived by his parents, Wilton "Bud" and Carrie Joyner of Greenville; brothers, Glenn Joyner and wife, Rhonda, of Greenville and Jeff Joyner of Raleigh; sister, Anne Joyner of Oak Island, N.C.; five nephews; a niece; two great-nephews; and numerous friends.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Aug. 10, at 3 p.m. at Family Worship Center in Elizabeth City.
