WARREN WINDLEY CAMPBELL JR.

Warren Windley Campbell Jr. passed away Friday, June 27, 2014, at Trinity Elms in Winston-Salem.

He was born March 21, 1928, in Bath, N.C., to his parents, Mary Thelma Moore and Warren Windley Campbell.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 30, 2014, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service celebrating Warren's life at 11 a.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Russ Nanny officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.

He is survived by his children, Judith, Michael and Warren Windley and wife, Mencie, and his three grandchildren, Ashley Campbell and fiancee´, Jessica, Charles Park and wife, Jessica, and Elizabeth Sink and husband, Jeremy.

He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Jackson and Jaden Sink and Holly Faith Campbell, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Campbell and Bill Campbell, and his sisters, Hilda Campbell and Betty Campbell Sutton.

A longtime resident of Wayne County, Mr. Campbell joined and served in the United States Navy at 16 years of age. He served in the South Pacific on the ships USS Baldwing Metcat, Bristol and Norris. He was very proud to be a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Campbell met, and later married, Melba Grantham Campbell July 11, 1948, by Dr. William Howard Carter.

He worked at Garner's Dairy while finishing high school through the G.I. bill provided at Goldsboro High School through the veterans and Mr. C.W. Twiford.

Mr. Campbell worked at Kress until the age of 21.

He then joined the police force that day, and spent the next 65 years in law enforcement. He was a policeman for 10 years, and became captain of detectives. He was the first law enforcement officer from Wayne County to attend the F.B.I. Academy.

In 1963, Mr. Campbell joined the S.B.I., and moved his family to New Bern.

In 1972 he became supervisor of the Northeast District of North Carolina in Greenville, which included 23 counties and 21 agents. He retired in 1986.

After retirement, he became a bailiff for the Wayne County Sheriff's Office for 12 years.

Mr. Campbell was a charter member of Jefferson United Methodist Church.

Warren was a man who loved his family, and worked hard to provide for them.

He loved fishing, woodworking, yard work and having company, especially when there were children involved.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Alzheimer's Inc., 1305 Navaho Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, N.C., 27609.
