EVELYN HOPE DAWSON MARTIN

April 27, 1925-June 29, 2014

Evelyn Dawson Martin, 89, went to be with her Lord and savior Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Evelyn was born in Wayne County April 27, 1925, to the late Myrtie Lillian Moye Dawson and Owen Emery Dawson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, P.J. Martin; her parents; and 12 siblings.

Mrs. Martin is survived by a son, Walton Kevin Smith (Marcie) of Westminster, Colo., and daughter, Loralyn Smith Tate of Anderson, S.C.

She had two grandchildren, Aaron Ian Smith of Louisville, Colo., and Candice Hope Tate of New Orleans, La.

She had a sister-in-law, Frances N. Dawson, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She graduated from Rosewood High School.

She was a cosmetologist in New Orleans, La., until she was in her 70s.

While in Louisiana, she was an active member of Metairie Baptist Church, where she kept the nursery for more than 30 years.

Following the death of her husband, P.J. Martin, she returned to Goldsboro, where she spent time with family and friends.

She was active in her church, Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church.

The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness and care provided by Dr. Metcalf and the third-floor staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital, as well as the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center, for the excellent care she received during the last few days of her life.

Funeral service celebrating her life will be Tuesday, July 1, at Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church, 204 Country Day Road, Goldsboro, at 7 p.m., with pastor Berry House officiating.

Family members will greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. and immediately following the service.

Committal service 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts in Evelyn's name to directed to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
