FAISON -- Dr. Frank Donnell Taylor, 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro surrounded by his family. He was born on Feb. 19, 1932 in Faison. He attended the Faison School, where he was an avid student athlete, playing basketball, football and baseball.

Frank Donnell graduated in 1950 as class valedictorian and then moved to Raleigh to attend North Carolina State University, where he wrestled on the varsity wrestling team. Undefeated during his senior year, he was named the Southern Conference Champion in his weight class. He graduated magna cum laude from NCSU in 1954 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. Frank Donnell held the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and was honorably discharged from the United States Army in September of 1956. He attended the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia from 1956 until 1960, where he graduated cum laude with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Taylor, affectionately known as "Doc" by the community, established his veterinary practice in Faison in 1960 and later expanded the practice to include a facility in Warsaw.

Frank Donnell was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Eddice and Lucille Winders Taylor, and his wife, Geraldine Sutton Taylor.

He is survived by his son, Donny Taylor and wife, Margaret, and daughter, Mandy Baker, of Faison, and his stepchildren, Donna Allen and husband, Jerry, of Goldsboro, Gerri Cox and husband, Mike, of Shallotte, and Sharon DuBois of Faison. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lea and Andrew Taylor, Danielle Baker, Tess Allen, Jerry Allen and wife, Lauren, Matt and Meredith Cox, Cindle and Paula DuBois, Travis DuBois and wife, Shannon, and Donny Oates, and wife, Kristy. He is also survived by his brothers, Luther E. Taylor II of Wilson and Kenneth Taylor of Jacksonville, Florida, sister, Betty Lou Williams of Faison, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations and memorials be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534. Visitation will be at the home of Frank Donnell today from 4-7 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Faison Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive.
