Betty Jean Summerlin, 38, passed away Friday at the home of her boyfriend, Kyle Johnson, in Fayetteville, N.C.

Betty Jean Summerlin grew up in Warsaw, N.C., where she attended Kenansville Elementary School, E.E. Smith Middle School and James Kenan High School. She was preparing to start at Fayetteville Technical College in the fall, where she was planning on furthering her career in animal care and medicine.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kelvin Gurley officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Betty Jean is survived by her son, Kyle Foley of Mount Olive; parents, Lewis J. Summerlin of Warsaw and Ivey Jean Wallace of Mount Olive; a brother, Lewis James Summerlin and wife, Cathy, of Wilmington; a niece, Samantha of Wilmington; and grandmother, Susan Holmes of Mount Olive.
