WORTH PARKER

Dec. 31, 1925-March 25, 2014

Worth White Parker, 88, Goldsboro, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning at his home surrounded by his family.

Worth was born in Wayne County Dec. 31, 1925, to the late William Leslie Parker and Effie Sutton Parker. He was married to the late Ida Frances Britt Parker, who preceded him in death Feb. 26, 2010.

Worth and Ida Frances were farmers in the Grantham community, and they raised their children on the farm that they dearly loved. He always enjoyed the simple pleasure of seeing the crops grow.

Worth was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and was a charter member of Thoroughfare Fire Department.

He also served on the Wayne County Board of Elections.

Worth proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

A service remembering Worth will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Falling Creek Baptist Church, with Dr. Billy Webb and the Rev. Ron Varner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.

Worth is survived by his sons, Richard Parker and wife, Susan, of Goldsboro and Tommy Parker and wife, Louise, of Raleigh; daughters, Barbara Williams and husband, Mike, of Princeton and Judy Edwards and husband, Delbert, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Ashley P. Walker and husband, Chris, and Jessica W. Brown and husband, Devin; two great-granddaughters, Devin ReAnn Brown and Riley Elizabeth Walker; his sister, Elva Jordan of Grantham; and several nieces and nephews.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff of Home Health and Hospice for the love and care it provided Worth during his final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

Also, we would like to thank the special caregivers, Sandra Gray, Catherine Cooper, Ann Boykin and Linda Jernigan, who cared for Worth over these past years.

In addition to his wife and parents, Worth was preceded in death by his brothers, Zeke Parker and George T. Parker.
