SUSAN C. CUNNINGHAM

Susan Carlyle Cunningham, 82, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
Susan was born in Lenoir County on Dec. 4, 1931 to the late Samuel Carlyle and Lula Carter Carlyle. She was a member of United in Christ Church. Along with her husband, Susan owned and operated S & J Crafts.
A service celebrating Susan's life will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at United in Christ Church with the Rev. Ira Williford officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday following the service. Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with George Strickland officiating.
Susan is survived by her husband, James Edwin Cunningham Sr.; daughter, Corliss Keefe of Dudley; sons, Lewis Ray Sowers of Sneads Ferry, William Scott Sowers and wife, Marilyn of Snow Hill and Stanley Vernon Sowers of Wilmington; and her sister, Lula Morton and husband, Edwin of Wilmington. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Constance Mitchell and husband, Ross of Metone, Ca.; stepson, James Edwin Cunningham II and wife, Renee of Durham; grandchildren, Joey and Holly Keefe, Sharon and Andrew Williams, David and Kim Sowers, Vernon Sowers, Jessica Jeter, Ron and Sarah Jenkins, Jacob and Misha Kinkade, Tyson and Rebecca Shapley, John and Celeste Kinkade; step-grandchildren, Robert Cunningham, James Cunningham III, Clint Cunningham, Hunter Cunningham, Kevin Mitchell, Timothy Mitchell and Sylvia Mitchell; and her great-grandchildren, John and Ashlyn Williams, Landon Keefe, Skyler Sowers and Kira Cunningham.
In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Patrick Keefe; four sisters, one brother, five half-sisters and one half-brother.
