DARRELL D. COOKE

DARRELL D. COOKE

Feb. 26, 1962-Feb. 27, 2014

Darrell Delon Cooke, 52, Greenville, died Thursday at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of James Fred and Betty Jane Cooke of Goldsboro.

Early in life, Darrell was confronted with complicated health challenges. A diagnosis of juvenile diabetes manifested at the age of 11, and rapidly presented as problematic with extreme complications.

A diagnosis of stomach cancer at the age of 21 further intensified an already fragile status.

Even still, Darrell earnestly pursued a productive life. His desire to live beyond the boundaries that his health dictated was fruitful, and resulted in long-standing relationships with many that he connected with along his journey.

Time confronted Darrell's journey with ever increasing complexity. Despite the adversity, Darrell pursued life until the end. Complications from a lifelong illness ultimately resulted in his death on the evening of Feb. 27, 2014.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In addition to his parents, Darrell is survived by a sister, Jeanine C. Howard of Kinston; two brothers, James Faron Cooke of Boone and Ricky Cooke of Greenville; nephews, Jackson Cooke Howard, Jacob Hobbs Howard and Michael Chancen Howard; a niece, Taylor Christian Myers; and a great-niece, Sophia Autumn Myers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, Va., 22312.

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Crematory of Goldsboro is serving the Cooke family, and online condolences may be sent to www.shumate-faulk.com.
