LAGRANGE -- Leslie Carroll Wood, 76, LaGrange, peacefully passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at his home with his family by his side.
Carroll was born May 1, 1937, in Craven County to the late C.W. and Cynthia Brittain Wood.
Carroll was a man who enjoyed hard work. He dairy farmed for many years, and later worked as a carpenter with Grayco Builders.
A true outdoorsman, Carroll enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a lover of all types of animals. In earlier years, he enjoyed trips to the beach and fishing on Salty's Pier.
Carroll was a member of White Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church, and an active part of the Men's Fellowship.
A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Carroll is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Mozingo Wood; three children, Charles Michael Wood, Rhonda Stroud and Joni Rhodes and husband, Brent; brother, Earl Wood and wife, Jean; five sisters, Peggy James, Dalthia Eason, Marjorie Warters and husband, Ernest, Mary Ann Smith and husband, Paul, and Linda Taylor and husband, Wilbur; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Carroll was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Suggs, and a brother, Kirby Wood.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, and at other times, will be at the home.
