Hugh Spicer Rhodes, 78, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Spicer was born in Wayne County June 29, 1935, to the late Samuel W. Rhodes and Flonnie Ethel Mitchell Rhodes. He was married to the late Beverly Jones Rhodes.

Spicer proudly served in the North Carolina National Guard for more than 40 years.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.

Spicer is survived by his son, Mike Rhodes and wife, Wendy, of Goldsboro, and two grandchildren, Darcie Rhodes and Dustin Rhodes.

He is also survived by his stepchildren, Robin Bryant, Tony Bryant, Darrell Hutchinson, Susan Greene and Cindy Pittman; five stepgrandchildren; and two sisters, Rachel Sasser and Louise Sasser.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim, Roland and Russell Rhodes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
