LAGRANGE -- Marylen Leroy "Frog" Carter, 69, LaGrange, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014.
Frog was born April 16, 1944, in Greene County to the late Walter Edward Carter and Helen Chase Carter.
Although Frog may have been a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes about the man he was. He was kind, compassionate and always willing to help his fellow man.
Frog enjoyed the simpler things of life, and lived a life with no regrets.
Frog retired from Sasser Lumber Co., where he worked 35 years as a truck driver.
Never one to be idle, Frog later began working with his son at Kinston Furniture Co. He took great pride in being part of the family business.
Frog was a proud member of LaGrange Church of God.
Frog's life set an example for his children and grandchildren that will lead them all their lives. His faith in Jesus and concern for others were exhibited in all he did.
A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at 7 p.m. from LaGrange Church of God, with pastor Arnold Ball officiating. Interment will be Thursday at 1 p.m. from Cobb Cemetery.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Edmundson Carter; two sons, Brad Carter of Goldsboro and Zach Carter of Pikeville; a daughter-in-law, whom he thought of as a daughter, Michelle Carter; five grandchildren, Jordan Minshew, Brody Carter, Channing Carter, Landon Carter and Alyana Carter; two sisters, Evelyn Phelps and Doris Carter; and a special nephew, Timmy Phelps.
In addition to his parents, Frog was preceded in death by three brothers, James Edward Carter, Will Miclime Carter and Walter Junior Carter, and two sisters, Sally Kelly and Ann Tolston.
The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service, and at other times, will be at the home.
