RAY GURGANUS

G. Ray Gurganus, 80, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the home of his daughter surrounded by his family.

Ray was born in Wayne County March 1, 1933, to the late Theidie and Clara Smith Gurganus.

He was a retired farmer, and had worked with Delmus Hardware for more than 30 years.

Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army.

He was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, and had received pins for 33 years of perfect attendance in Sunday school.

Ray was a true sportsman, most comfortable outdoors in the woods. He was a hunter of big and small game, and loved walking in the woods and fields with a gun and his dog searching for a 10-pointer.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service in the chapel at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Barry Teague and the Rev. Tony McLamb officiating. Interment will follow in Newsome Family Cemetery with military honors.

Ray is survived by his daughters, Yolanda Williams and husband, Randy, of Raleigh, Teresa Short and husband, Gene, of Goldsboro and Juanita Gurganus and fiancé, David Grant, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Stephanie Short, Melissa Baughman, Rebekah Short, Monica Arbuckle and husband, Zach, and Josh Williams and wife, Lori; great-grandchildren, Jackson Lovic and Ila Lovic; and his sister, Grace Tyndall.
