EUREKA -- Billie Jo Mizelle Smith died Thursday with her family at her side.

Funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 532 Country Day Road, Goldsboro.

Visitation will be in the narthex from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.

Committal will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.

Surviving are her mother, Anne Mizelle Smith; sister, Patricia Smith Jackson (Wayne) of Fremont; niece, Jenny Jackson of Greenville; nephew, Matthew Jackson of Greenville; an aunt, Jean Smith; and first cousins, Brenda Baker of Eureka, Linwood Smith of Micro, Hal Gordon Waddell III of Burlington and Anne Waddell McWalters of Delaware.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Henry "Billy" Smith in 2004

Ms. Smith was a teacher of social studies and history at Goldsboro High School until her illness.

She was a graduate of the University North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in criminal justice. She was also a graduate of Barton College at Wilson with a 4.0 average with a degree in history education.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she was very active in choir and the handbell choir that performed annually at Howell Child Care Center during Christmas

Other times, the family will be at her mother's residence, 452 Bogue Road, Fremont.
