AGNES FRANCES HOWELL BRADSHAW

Dec. 13, 1928-Dec. 25, 2013

Agnes Frances Howell Bradshaw, 85, was called "home" Christmas morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

She was born Dec. 13, 1928, to the late George Jackson Howell and Ada Tyndall Howell.

She was the granddaughter of the late Rev. Alan and Martha Simmons Tyndall and the late Jackson and Jeannette Howell.

She was the widow of her husband, Jack Bradshaw, whom she was married to for more than 50 years.

Ms. Bradshaw owned and operated Bradshaw's Beauty Shop, which was located at her home for 50 years. She retired from being a beautician at age 83.

Bradshaw's Beauty Shop was not just a business, but a familiar gathering place for all. As years went by, the clientele began to age as well.

Ms. Bradshaw would go and pick up her customers and bring them to the shop to have their hair done. She would oftentimes buy them lunch as well. When it was time to leave, Ms. Bradshaw was known to drive her clients home to make sure they were safe.

"Aunt Agnes," as she was affectionately known by all, was known for her kind heart and compassionate soul. She continued to visit the sick and "elderly" in the nursing facilities and the shut-ins until her own health declined.

She was well known as a Southern Lady, who had a large heart and brought sunshine to all she met. She never met a stranger, and made everyone she came into contact with feel comfortable and important.

Ms. Bradshaw was a faithful member of Fremont Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a charter member of more than 60 years. She was faithful to her church and an active member until her recent decline in health. She loved her church and church family very much.

She touched many lives through the years.

Ms. Bradshaw was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Bradshaw; two brothers, George Jackson "Dick" Howell Jr. and Percy Leon "Pert" Howell; three sisters, Molene Windham, Alma Bass and Helen Howell; and a nephew, Lee Howell.

She is survived by her nieces, Sheri Bass Sauls (Doug) of Goldsboro, Lynn Winstead (Ronnie) of Elm City, Gail Bottoms (Matt) of Beaufort, N.C., and Tammy Smith of Texas; nephews, Michael Howell of California and Donald Howell of Florida; many cousins, great-nieces and nephews; and her church family.

A celebration of her life will be held Friday, Dec. 27, at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home at 6:30 p.m., located at 102 N. Pine St. in Fremont, N.C.

The family will greet friends and relatives immediately after the service.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont, N.C.

Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be directed to the Salvation Army, Fremont Free Will Baptist Church or Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

The family of Agnes Howell Bradshaw would like to acknowledge its appreciation to the nurses, staff and physicians who cared for her at Vidant Medical Center, Wayne Memorial Hospital, Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A special "thank you" to the many caregivers who assisted Ms. Bradshaw during the past years, which allowed her to maintain her dignity and independence. The family is forever grateful of the compassion, expertise and care administered to her and the family.
