SAMUEL L. PARKS

Mr. Samuel L. Parks, 70, lovingly known by his family and friends as "Sam," 804-A Carver Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., departed his earthly life Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Goldsboro, N.C.

Samuel was born in Wayne County Dec. 7, 1942, to the late Rev Jay Gould and Mrs. Dora Wynn Parks.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Almond "Al" Parks, Emmanuel "Bud" Parks and John T. Parks, and three sisters, Sudie Parks Purvis, Elizabeth Parks Jackson and Dora Mildred Parks.

"Sam" attended Dillard High School and graduated in the class of 1961.

After graduating from high school, Mr. Parks served his country by enlisting in the United States Army during World War II.

After serving in the military, he returned back to his home in Goldsboro, N.C.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Faith United Holy Church, 1603 S. Slocumb St., Goldsboro, N.C. Bishop Raveion Moses will officiate. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery South, 2925 S. U.S. 117, Dudley, N.C.

Also, a public viewing will be held Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, in the Apostle D. L. McIntyre Memorial Parlor, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., from 2 to 6 p.m. During the viewing, the family will be present from 5 to 6 p.m. to receive other family members and friends.

Mr. Parks leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his niece, Tamara Jackson of Goldsboro, N.C.; his nephews, Rodney Parks of Afghanistan and Gregory Williams Sr. and wife, Elizabeth, of Wilson, N.C.; friend of the family and caretaker, Bernice Crawford of Goldsboro, N.C.; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

At other times, the family will receive friends and other family members at the residence of Ms. Tamara Jackson, 1002 S. Madison Ave., Goldsboro, N.C.

Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, the family and friends will assemble one hour prior at 9:50 a.m. at the residence in preparation for the funeral procession.

Flowers may be sent to McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., beginning Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
