James Edgar "Dibbie" Kearney, 82, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville surrounded by his family.

Dibbie was born in Greene County Oct. 16, 1931, to the late Stephen and Edna Sumrell Kearney.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Dibbie had worked as a repairman with Little's TV, and was a member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

A service celebrating Dibbie's life will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Reynolds Smith and the Rev. Roy Savage officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at the Kearney Family Cemetery in Snow Hill.

Dibbie is survived by his wife, Nora Davis Kearney; daughters, Jenny Crumpler and husband, Ricky, of Goldsboro, Jarah Baker of Seven Springs and Nan Thompson and husband, Danny, of Pikeville; son, James Edgar "Jimmy" Kearney Jr. and wife, Pat, of Pikeville; sister, Eleanor Parrish of Snow Hill; 16 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Marsha Kearney, and brothers, Roger, Eugene, and Melvin Ray Kearney.

The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service at the church, and other times at his home.
