ARTHUR "JIM" RICE

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Arthur Rice, 80, known to most as "Jim," died Saturday evening, Sept. 21, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Graveside funeral services, including military rites, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m. at Pineview Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Doug Johnson.

Friends and family will be received at the residence.

Mr. Rice, born in Bryson City and raised at Black Mountain, was retired from the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Joyce Adams Rice of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Bo Britt of Seven Springs; a brother and sister-in-law, William Leslie and Jerilene Rice of Black Mountain; three grandchildren, Jennifer Edmisten and husband, Michael, of Bahama, Gina Neidecker and husband, John, of Belmawr, N.J., and Jason Britt and wife, Mary Michael, of Seven Springs; a great-grandchild, Addison Edmisten; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harlie and Willie Belle Thurmond Rice; a brother, Wade Rice; and a sister, Mildred Rice Goldsmith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45250.
