PORTSMOUTH, Va. -- Elder Coy B. Coley Sr. transitioned from labor to reward Sept. 10, 2013, in Portsmouth, Va., surrounded by family.

He was born Oct. 11, 1956, in Fremont, N.C., the youngest son of Helen Thompson Coley and Levy Coy Coley, deceased. Coy graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School.

He served in the United States Navy from 1975 until his retirement in 1995.

He loved God, and was committed to family and to Brotherly Love COGIC, where he served as associate pastor.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Gail Maria Coley of Portsmouth Va.; seven children, LaQuita Edmonds of Chesapeake, Va., Coy Coley Jr. of Arlington, Va., Antwan Coley of Ocala, Fla., LaQunda Coley of Greensboro, N.C., Tishawnae Coley of Asheboro, N.C., David Nolen of Claymont, Del., and Derrick Nolen of the home; his mother Helen T. Coley; a brother; two sisters; 14 grandchildren; an aunt and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral will be held at 11a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 934 W. Little Creek Road, Norfolk, Va.
