JOHN W. DENNING

John Windell "J.W." Denning passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2013.

J. W. was born in Wayne County, N.C., to the late John Herman Denning and Donnie Stevens Denning.

He was a graduate of Grantham High School, a veteran of the United States Army, life member of VFW Post 2615 and a member of Pleasant Union Christian Church in Newton Grove.

J. W. retired from Carolina Power and Light Co. with more than 36 years of service.

A graveside service of remembrance will be held at Wayne Memorial Park Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Don Sauls officiating.

The family will receive friends at the residence and Sunday immediately following the service at the graveside.

J.W. is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edith Baker Denning; his daughters, Joy D. Pate and husband, Walter, and Patty D. Best and husband, Waite Jr.; his granddaughter, Paige Leigh Best; his grandson, Shane Pate and wife, Carla; and his great grandson, Dylan Pate. He is also survived by his sister, Ruby D. Boyette; his brother, Guy Denning; his sisters-in-law, Lois Denning, Peggy Denning, Corneva Wiggins, Luna Tadlock and husband, Ezra; his brother-in-law, Bobby Baker; and several nieces and nephews.

J.W. was preceded in death by his sisters, Pearl Denning, Inez Denning, Clara Tetterton and Stella Porter; his brothers, Dick, Cornelius, Frank and Shelton Denning; and his brothers-in-law, Nick Tetterton, George Denning, Henry Porter, Oscar Boyette and Don Wiggins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to WAGES Meals on Wheels, 601 Royall Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
