AUSTIN WHITAKER

Mr. Austin Whitaker, 89, 610 Isler St., Goldsboro, N.C., departed his earthly life Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at Kitty Atkins Hospice Center, Goldsboro, N.C.

Austin was born in Wayne County, N.C., Nov. 15, 1923, and he was preceded in death by father, Mr. Albert H. Whitaker; his mother, Mrs. Selma Hunter Whitaker; stepmother, Evelyn McLeod Whitaker; and siblings, Laverne, Dorothy, Eddie and Albert Jr.

He received his education in the public schools of Wayne County.

Mr. Whitaker enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Italy, North Africa and the Philippines during World War II.

Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Church of Christ, 700 W. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C. Bishop Alton A. Smith will officiate.

Interment will follow Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 286 Murchison Road, Spring Lake, N.C.

A public viewing will be held Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., from 2 to 6 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m. to receive other family members and friends.

Mr. Whitaker leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his sister, Beulah W. Shealy and husband, Junius; a cousin, Marian W. Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

At other times, the family will receive friends and other family members at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Junius Shealy, 1608 S. John St., Goldsboro, N.C.
