ALBERT HARVEY HANDLEY

Albert Harvey Handley, 88, passed away on June 25, 2013, at his daughter's home in Newborn, Ga. He will be interred in Norfolk, Va., beside his wife of 54 years, Ruth Wright Handley.

Albert was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Goldsboro. Preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Dorrity Handley and Albert Harvey Handley Sr., of Goldsboro, and three sisters, Annette Goelz, Marilyn Perrin and Margaret Smiley. He is survived by three of his six sisters, Elizabeth Gillikin and June Hoyle of Goldsboro, and Ruby Lewis of Pembroke Pines, Fla.

He is also survived by his three daughters, Glenna Wright Handley and husband, Douglas Wright of Newborn, Ga.; Elizabeth Handley Berner and husband, John Berner of Winter Park, Fla.; and Ruth Dalby Handley of Atlanta, Ga., as well as three grandchildren, Matthew and Meredith Berner and Shannon Wright. A North Carolina native, Albert graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1941. He served as a medic in the U.S. Navy during WWII. A "die hard" Demon Deacon, Albert graduated from Wake Forest University in 1949.

Residing in Greensboro for over 30 years, he was a licensed real estate agent and appraiser, and was employed at the Department of Housing and Urban Development until his retirement at age 80.
