ELSIE S. MOORE
March 26, 1924-June 7, 2013
LAGRANGE -- Elsie Sutton Moore, 89, LaGrange, passed away Friday, June 7, 2013.
Elsie was born March 26, 1924, in LaGrange to the late John Hardy Sutton and Amy Graham Sutton.
She graduated from New Hope High School in 1942 as valedictorian.
Following graduation from high school, Elsie attended business school in Charleston, S.C., where she met a young man serving in the United States Marine Corps, Wilfred H. Moore.
Following his military service, they settled in Santa Cruz, Calif.
After Wilfred's death, Elsie moved back home to LaGrange.
She was an active member of Beston United Methodist Church, where in past years, she had taught Sunday School and assisted with the children.
She enjoyed crocheting, and was an avid reader.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sherman Guthrie officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Old Bluff Church Cemetery.
Elsie is survived by a brother, John H. "Jack" Sutton of LaGrange; niece, Miriam Ruiz of Tampa, Fla.; and two nephews, Andrew Stanley of Piketon, Ohio, and Douglas Stanley of Durham.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elsie was preceded in death by two sisters, Rachel Louise Sutton and Ruth Sutton Stanley.
The family will receive friends Saturday following the memorial service.
