Charles Jay Carroll, 75, was born June 5, 1937, and passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Wake Medical Center.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Howard and Christine Moore Carroll.

Charles was a 1955 graduate of Goldsboro High School, a graduate of Oakridge Military Academy and a member of the North Carolina National Guard.

He was an avid pilot, and had served as commander of the Goldsboro Civil Air Patrol.

He was involved in the family business, C.J. Carroll Motor Co., and then he became co-owner of Goldsboro Aerial Crop Spraying. Charles had been employed with the city of Goldsboro in the transportation department, and in 1982 became owner of National Land and Timber Co.

He was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church.

A service to celebrate his life will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Bailey and the Rev. Barry Williamson officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Charles is survived by his wife, Lynda McQueen Carroll; daughter, De Anne Carroll of Wilmington; sons, Chris Carroll of Fremont and Kevin Carroll of South Carolina; sister, Doris Varga and husband, Frank, of New Bern; grandchildren, Kevin Carroll Jr. and wife, Angela, H. David Carroll and wife, Brandy, and Kristian Carroll; and great-grandson, Parker D. Carroll.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Lynn Carroll, and brothers, Mickey and Steve Carroll.

The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service at the funeral home.
