RETHA DEANS GUESS MASSEY

Sunday morning, May 26, 2013, Retha Deans Guess Massey of Goldsboro moved to her heavenly home.

Retha was a godly woman who loved the Lord and her family, and set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives.

Retha was born in Wayne County May 9, 1920, to the late Louis and Bessie Hill Deans.

She was preceded in death by husbands, James Guess and William Massey.

Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed.

A service remembering the life of Retha will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, at First African Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Retha is survived by her daughter, Darenthia Ann Guess Marsh of Goldsboro; son, Willie Floyd Deans of Goldsboro; brothers, Louis Deans Jr. and wife Juanita, of Greensboro and Robert Deans and wife, Doris, of Greensboro; sister, Gloria D. Braswell and husband, Charlie, of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Willie Deans Jr., Wesley Deans, Malean Deans and Michael G. Flowers; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James Deans, Johnny F. Deans and Preston Deans, and sisters, Mary D. Rogers and Dorothy L. Dupree.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 1, 2013, from 1 to 2 p.m. at First African Baptist Church.
