GREENVILLE -- Ruth Stanley, 86, died Thursday, May 16, 2013.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Adams officiating.
Mrs. Stanley was a native of Lenoir County and was a graduate of New Hope High School. She attended East Carolina Teachers College, where she studied nursing for 1 year. She was a member of Beston Methodist Church from 1960 to 1988, during which time she played the organ, piano and was the church choir director. For the past 20 years, she had been a resident of Greenville, where she was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Andrew Stanley; grandson, Aaron Ruisz; and a sister, Rachel Louise Sutton.
She is survived by her three children, Andy Stanley of Henderson, Nev., Miriam Stanley Ruisz and husband, Mark, of Tampa, Fla., and Doug Stanley and wife, Sherry, of Durham, N.C.; grandson, Josh Ruisz of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; brother, Jack Sutton; and a sister, Elsie Moore, both of LaGrange.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 2000 E. 6th St., Greenville, N.C., 27858.
