Wyatt Ray Gurley went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 16, 2013.

Homegoing services will be held Monday evening, May 20, 2013, at 7 p.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. The Rev. Matthew Horne and the Rev. Donald Daniels will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. Graveside services with military honors will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Wyatt Ray was born in Wayne County to Dan and Bessie Capps Gurley on May 24, 1931. Wyatt proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded many medals, which included the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation.

Wyatt loved the Lord and served Him many, many years. He was a member of Belfast Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a former member of Deep Run Church of God and Patetown Church of God, where he served in many positions in the church. Wyatt retired from Goldsboro Housing Authority after 31 years of service.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years of marriage, Hilda Jones Gurley; one daughter, Becky Daniels and husband, Donald, of Farmville; two sons, Dennis Gurley and wife, Donna, from Louisburg and Carlos Gurley and wife, Beth, of Goldsboro; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; and one sister, Ada Batten of Mount Olive.
