Donald Reid Anderson Sr., 75, died Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Wayne County to the late Ernest Allen and Betty Holmes Anderson, and was married to the late Bobbie Collister Anderson.

A veteran of the United States Navy, he retired from the Department of Transportation as assistant supervisor with the bridge department after 30 years of service.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with Mr. Lennie Reagan and pastor Mark Thomas will be officiating. Graveside services will be private.

The family will be receiving friends immediately following the funeral service Tuesday evening at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times will be at the home of his son, Donald R. Anderson Jr.

Mr. Anderson is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Reid Jr. and Melissa Anderson; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela A. and Gregory C. Monroe; five grandchildren, Paul Allen Anderson, Melinda A. and David Byrd, Amanda M. and Evan J. Proctor, Jessica A. and David P. Brown and Casey R. Monroe; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan S. Anderson, Dylan J. Byrd and Alyssa M. Byrd; a stepgreat-grandson, Gaven M. Proctor; five adoptive grandchildren, Bridget G. Moore, Matthew J. Ballance, Kelvin G. Garret, Jasmine N. Harris and Larisa Conner; special lady friend, Ruby Medlin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Thurman Anderson, Ruth Rouse, Clell Marsh, James Ernest "J.E." Anderson and baby Mable Eunice Anderson.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the day and night nurses on the north side of ICU at Wayne Memorial Hospital. We appreciate all the love and kindness shown to our father and our family during his stay.
