Friends and family are also being received at Mrs. Essie's residence.

She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Elnor B. Brickhouse of Atlantic, N.C., Rose B. and Vernon Carter of Mount Olive and Mary B. and Ricky Willis of Newport, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Lettie P. Barwick of Mount Olive; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Colon and Jean Sullivan of Mount Olive and Goldsboro; and many nieces and nephews, including special niece, Sue S. She was a longtime member of Bethel United Methodist Church, and had been very active in its United Methodist Women.

A farm wife and homemaker, she was quite handy with a sewing needle, and had been employed with Young Squire Industries.

Known for her quilting and embroidery skills, she, too, enjoyed gardening, yard work and tending to her flowers, and she is remembered for her love for fishing.

With the exception of the last few years in which she resided at Sunbridge Care Center (now Genesis), all her years were lived in the Oak Ridge community, where she was regarded as a good neighbor and dear friend to many.

Flowers are welcome or memorial gifts may be made to Bethel Church United Methodist Women, 976 Garners Chapel Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365, or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

A Tyndall service.
